An exquisite, decorator-grade paired set of two (2) antique late 19th-century Chinese silk embroidery figural panels. Housed in custom, ready-to-hang matching octagonal hardwood frames, this mirror-image pair serves as an exceptional example of classic Chinese textile mastery, beautifully preserved for inclusion in high-end Chinoiserie, traditional, or transitional interiors.
Design and Artistry
Meticulously hand-worked in a sophisticated, muted monochrome palette of cream, warm tan, sepia, and charcoal silk threads, the compositions depict detailed narrative scenes of domestic life within a traditional scholar's pavilion garden. The fine stitch-work is rich with historic symbolism, featuring hand-rendered figures in classical attire surrounded by blooming tree peonies, stylized pagodas, and auspicious cranes signifying longevity and status.
The reverse of each panel retains its magnificent historic integrity, boasting authentic wood-pulp backing silk fabric and highly collectible, original solid brass patented flip-ring bracket hangers secured by old flat-head screws.Dimensions
Width: 14 inches (35.56 cm) per panel
Height: 12 inches (30.48 cm) per panel
Quantity: Included as a perfectly matched, coordinated pair (2 panels total)
Condition Report
Excellent antique condition. The textile elements are remarkably well-preserved with robust fiber integrity and no major fraying, thread loss, or silk shattering. The custom octagonal frames are structurally sound and secure, showcasing a beautiful, light, age-appropriate surface patina and minor historic character marks that validate their 100+ year heritage.
Authentication
Circa late 19th Century to early 1900s (Late Qing Dynasty), authenticated by the style of embroidery, the natural aging of the mulberry silk ground, and the presence of period-correct cast brass flip-ring hanging hardware.
