This early piece predates later Dutch porcelain produced in the Netherlands in the 18th century. A yellow-painted edge that serves as a vibrant accent and a mark of exceptional artistry and skill as yellow was very difficult to fire in the kilns of that era.

This blue and white charger, made in Delft around 1690, pays elegant homage to the Chinese Kraak porcelain wares that first captivated Dutch collectors in the early 17th century. At its center, a landscape dominated by a flowering tree with abundant foliage - a tranquil tableau framed by a rich border and a rim alive with floral panels.

Inspired by Kraak porcelain imported by the VOC from circa 1605 to 1635, this charger reflects both faithful imitation and creative adaptation. Delft potters embraced the iconic paneled rim, delicate motifs, and narrative centers of the Chinese originals, translating them into tin-glazed earthenware for European homes. The alternating panels of floral sprays and wandering figures, as well as the stylized markings on the reverse, speak to the technical mastery and global vision of 17th-century Delftware artisans.
