The larger dish … Read more A charming pair of hand-painted hexagonal dishes by Tichelaar Makkum, the Netherlands, made in the mid-20th century. The larger dish is decorated with a small yellow bird on a branch, while the smaller dish shows a fruit basket motif. Both pieces share the same polychrome palette, with yellow scalloped rims, green corner ornaments and finely painted scrollwork.

The pair is marked with the Makkum shield mark and the painters signatures. Please note that the dishes differ in size: the larger dish measures approximately 17 x 17 cm and is 3.5 cm high, while the smaller dish measures approximately 11 x 11 cm and is 2 cm high. The dishes are in very good vintage condition, with light age-related surface wear and fine glaze crackle consistent with hand-painted tin-glazed earthenware of this period.
