An exceptional mid century Mexican modernist round coffee table designed by legend Arturo Pani for Muller’s of Mexico, circa 1960s.
This statement piece features a thick, polished onyx top exhibiting a rich mosaic of natural cream and warm amber-toned onyx. A delicate brass inlay ring accents the face of the tabletop, dividing the outer cream border from the multi-tonal tessellated center mosaic. The top rests on four sweeping, gracefully flared brass cabriole-style legs that elevate the heavy stone plane with dramatic architectural flair.
Combining grand Hollywood Regency glamour with mid-century organic materials, this table showcases the opulent craft and material mastery of Mexican modernism.

About the Designer: Arturo Pani (1915–1981)
Often referred to as the “Jean Royère of Mexico,” Arturo Pani was a central figure in defining the high-glamour aesthetic of postwar Mexican design. Trained alongside his brother, the renowned modernist architect Mario Pani, at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Arturo brought a theatrical, European-influenced sensibility back to Mexico City in the late 1930s. He became the decorator of choice for Mexico’s elite, pioneering the lavish “Acapulco Look” favored by international jet-setters and celebrated by photographers like Slim Aarons. Pani was renowned for taking mid-century modern forms and pairing them with rich, traditional materials—gilded iron, solid brass, sculpted stone, and polished marble. Today, his limited-production custom furnishings remain highly collectible works of art.
