This stunning original Ettore Caser (1880-1944) oil painting in a Post-Impressionist style exhibition caliber painting - see pics. The painting, measuring 32 inches wide by 44 inches tall, depicts an architectural facade and is framed. Created in the early 20th century using the oil painting technique on canvas, this artwork is a unique and handcrafted piece that would make a beautiful addition to any art collection. Note there is some craquelure (surface crazing) which also helps out appraiser ascertain age.
Caser's works can sell for up to $40,000. The luminous blues and golds are very characteristic of Caser's work and given the paint an handling and atmospheric light, this suggests on of his more ambitious pieces. His use of monumental architecture contrasted with small figures gives the painting a sophisticated, almost theatrical quality.
Ettore Caser (1880 - 1944), was an Italian-American artist born in Venice, Italy. His work was "discovered" by the Boston society portrait painter and frame designer H. Dudley. Murphy while the artist still lived in Italy. The admiration for Caser's work by both Murphy and John Singer Sargent motivated the artist to visit the US where his technique, steeped in the lessons of the Venetian painterly tradition, was readily accepted by other artists and critics of the era (early 1900's.). After WWI, Caser returned permanently to the U.S., became a naturalized citizen and worked mostly in New York City. He also executed murals in Boston, Toledo, Chicago and NYC. In 1945 there was a posthumous exhibition of his work held at the Grand Central Art Galleries. Caser's work does not fall into easy categorization. The style is variously described as post-impressionist and tonalist, characterized by subtle color modulation and warm values.
