An exceptional and rare vintage italian photo frame by barovier & toso, one of the most prestigious and historically significant murano glassmakers in the world. Dating from the 1940s–1950s, this elegant piece beautifully reflects the refined craftsmanship and timeless sophistication for which the venetian glasshouse has been celebrated for centuries.
the frame is executed in the iconic torchon (torciglione/ritorto) technique, featuring hand-blown murano crystal glass expertly twisted to create a richly sculptural rope-like texture. The deeply ribbed surface captures and refracts light from every angle, producing a luminous opalescent shimmer characteristic of fine murano glass. Its softly rounded rectangular silhouette gives the piece a refined, jewel-like presence.
a polished brass inner liner with rounded corners provides a striking contrast to the fluid glasswork, while the distinctive ribbed brass collar detail adds an elegant mid-century accent. The reverse retains its original handmade brass easel support engraved “barovier-toso”, confirming authenticity and adding collectible appeal.
both decorative and functional, this frame is a sophisticated display piece — perfect for a treasured photograph, vanity setting, desk, or curated murano collection.
