in 1973, vico magistretti designed the „snow" for oluce — a lamp of disarming simplicity and considerable presence. A slender black steel stem rises from a solid white marble base, culminating in a large conical shade in white acrylic. The geometry is elementary: cone, rod, hemisphere. The effect, when lit, is a soft, warm downward light that spreads evenly across the room — diffused through the acrylic in the manner of snow-filtered daylight. Hence the name.

magistretti (1920–2005) was one of the central figures of italian modernism, working across architecture, furniture and lighting. His work for oluce produced several icons of 20th-century design — among them the atollo (compasso d'oro 1979) and this lamp, the snow, which was produced only for a short period and has since become increasingly sought after on the secondary market.

this example is in good vintage condition consistent with its age. The acrylic shade shows light surface marks. The marble base and steel stem are intact. The lamp is fully functional. Please note that the stem sits slightly loose in the base, resulting in a minor tilt — this can be corrected by adjusting the positioning of the stem.
