Created for the French shipping company Compagnie Maritime des Chargeurs Réunis, the composition depicts an elegantly dressed woman reclining in a deck chair aboard an ocean liner, her face shaded by an oversized yellow hat. Gruau’s characteristic bold outlines and sophisticated use of color capture the glamour and leisure associated with postwar ocean travel. Inscribed “relax...” at upper left and bearing Gruau’s signature at upper right. Circa 1954–1961. Presented in a black frame. Framed size: 28.5" W x 42.5" H. See less
