The "Teste di Moro" (Moor's Heads) are a traditional Sicilian ceramic art form, often depicting male and female heads adorned with elaborate crowns of fruit and flowers. These pieces are deeply rooted in Sicilian folklore and history, with legends attributing their origin to a tragic love story from the Moorish period in Sicily. They are highly prized for their intricate craftsmanship and vibrant, hand-painted details.

These decorative ceramic heads have become iconic symbols of Sicilian artistry and are widely collected. While traditionally made in Caltagirone, Sicily, similar styles are produced by other Italian ceramic manufacturers, often incorporating regional motifs and artistic interpretations. The use of bright glazes and detailed sculpting, as seen in this piece with its abundant fruit and foliage, is characteristic of high-quality Italian ceramics. See less
