Widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of nineteenth-century chromolithography, Racinet's work documents the evolution of architectural and ornamental design from antiquity through the Renaissance. The publication became an indispensable reference for artists, architects, interior designers, and craftsmen, celebrated for its extraordinary color printing and remarkable accuracy. These three plates focus on richly ornamented Renaissance decorative designs of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. They feature elaborate cartouches, scrolling acanthus foliage, grotesques, heraldic elements, architectural ornament, illuminated initials, and richly colored decorative panels reproduced in vivid chromolithography. Printed on large folio sheets by Firmin Didot, the plates retain the brilliance and refinement that made L'Ornement polychrome one of the most influential design books of the nineteenth century. Ideal for display as a triptych in traditional, transitional, or contemporary interiors.
