This vintage set of three Cemar California pottery salad plates features a deeply embossed pineapple pattern in a vibrant chartreuse-yellow gloss glaze with crisp green leaf crowns. Originally designed as whimsical tropical tableware, these sculptural ceramic dishes now offer a striking layer of texture and historical interest to the curated home. They function beautifully as a coordinated 9-inch table service, an immediate focal grouping for an eclectic plate wall installation, or distinctive accent trays on an entryway console.
The plates are authenticated mid-century creations from the renowned Cemar Clay Products studio of Los Angeles, California, showcasing their registered design pattern No. 826 mold lines. Hand-cast in characteristically heavy regional clay, each plate features a thick, glossy glaze that puddles deeply into the diamond-textured fruit scales to maximize visual depth. The undersides bear the original rough kiln-stilt marks from production, verifying the traditional mid-century hand-firing techniques relied upon in early West Coast pottery workshops. This set dates back to the height of the mid-century California art pottery movement, produced roughly between circa 1940 and 1950. During this golden era of West Coast ceramics, the pineapple motif was heavily embraced as a classical architectural symbol of hospitality and warmth, leading studios like Cemar to create stylized, organic giftware lines to supply upscale mid-century boutiques.

It is structurally perfect for a hutch centerpiece, plate rail, or secure wall-hanging display. If used at the table, we recommend limiting it to dry, ambient-temperature foods (like bread or pastries) and hand-washing gently to preserve its antique value for another century. A small hairline crack can be found on one side of the platter and a small chip can be found on the bottom of the edge. Condition can be found in photos and price is updated to reflect defects. less
