An elegant Victorian silver-plated serving vessel by WSP Co. (Wilcox Silver Plate Co.), retaining its original frosted and etched oval glass liner and fitted silver-plated lid. The ornate frame features scrolling decoration, a swing handle with beaded border, and an exterior utensil holder designed to accommodate a serving fork or small tongs (utensil not included).
The original oval glass insert is beautifully decorated with acid-etched foliage and molded panels, while the silver-plated frame displays classic late Victorian styling with decorative feet and richly detailed ornamentation. The combination of silver plate and frosted glass gives the piece an elegant presence suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Pieces of this form have been identified as pickle castors, preserve jars, and biscuit barrels, making it a versatile decorative and serving accessory. Today it also makes an exceptional display piece for a dining room, bar cart, or sideboard.
