Turning the past into stunning décor for today — this 1948 solid brass tray from Virginia Metalcrafters is a striking seasonal piece for a mantel, executive desk, or entryway console. Sculpted by noted American artist Oskar J.W. Hansen, it features a high-relief pheasant cock nestled among stylized bamboo leaves, finished in the foundry’s factory-applied “Verdi” treatment — a chemical verdigris patina that lets the polished brass highlights on the bird and foliage glow against the antiqued green ground.
The heavy sand-cast weight and rich wildlife motif bring Hollywood Regency elegance to Grandmillennial, hunting lodge, or rustic country estate interiors. Equally at home as a cocktail party card holder, a vanity catchall, or a distinctive hostess or groomsman gift for the vintage collector on your list.
The underside carries the full VMC foundry hallmark, 1948 copyright date, model number 4-8, and the stamped title “Pheasant Cock.”
