Two mid-century vintage Hopi-style Katsina (Kachina) dolls, paper-mache/canvas with what appears to be a grosso overlay and mounted on natural tree bark bases (likely Cottonwood Root.)
Left Figure: Heheya Katsina
Aesthetics: Clad in a simplified white tunic with a diagonal red-and-black sash and brown moccasins.
Face Mask: Features a white-painted face with an inverted red crescent arching over the eyes, a prominent nose, and subtle vertical line details typical of the Heheya Katsina character.
Regalia: Holds a small blue rhythmic rattle or staff in one hand, while the other arm is raised in a dynamic gesture. The head is adorned with natural fur or tufts of feathers.
Right Figure: Clown / Colorful Katsina
Aesthetics: Showcases a brightly painted geometric design consisting of pink, yellow, blue, and white segments wrapped around the body and limbs.
Face Mask: Features a solid blue face mask accented with a large red nose, bold circular yellow eyes, and prominent red yarn or fiber ears flanking the head.
Regalia: Draped with a woven patterned fabric sash on the side and wears solid blue calf-high moccasins.
These dolls, made and sold by the indigenous people of America's southwest, are indicative of the determination, and even entrepreneurial spirit of these amazing people.

As a result of their age, they do have some minor flaws as well as previous repairs. Because they were originally glued to the base, they have likely been repaired several times (see photo of the glue on the bottom.) It is also quite likely the new owner will have to do repairs as well. Despite that, and considering how they were made, they are in great condition. less
