A rare French art deco pendant by Hettier & Vincent in nickel plated bronze or solid brass holding a beautiful shade in milky blue slightly opalescent glass made by Verreries des Hanots . Des Hanots was like Verlys one of the brands of the large Holophane glass company. Hettier & Vincent was a large well known French lighting company producing high quality items. Wholesaler and retailer with its prestigious shop at the beautiful Place de Vosges in Paris. The rare Hanots bowl in thick molded opalescent glass in a typical art deco design that unites a geometrical pattern and nine flying birds. The slightly opalescent semi-crystal bowl is milky bluish when the light shines on it and shows beautiful tones of amber when light is shining through. The bowl is represented in the 1935 Holophane catalog. It is signed Hanots both to the rim as well as on the shade. The chandelier is in very good condition. No damages to the glass. As shown on the pictures there is a small hairline near the center of the bowl. It's not a crack but a common molding irregularity we can often find on thick molded 1930 shades. Since the shade is not very transparent fewer light shines through and the pendant works more like an up-light chandelier.
The pendant is visible in one of the Hettier & Vincent catalog supplements (see picture). I have re-nickeled and patinated the mounting and it comes rewired with an American standard socket. The pendant is 44,5 cm high (17,52") and the bowl has a diameter of 13,78 inches.
