Model 1491 is a highly recognizable Duncan Phyfe-style lyre game table. It features a swivel-flip top, a central harp/lyre pedestal base, and four sweeping legs tipped with brass claw-foot caps. They were built using high-grade mahogany or cherry veneers over solid hardwoods. Finding one today with completely unwarped wood and an intact flip mechanism is rare, as these tables were heavily used for family card games."

This piece is in amazing condition for the age. We have dealt with these in the past, and this one stands out as being in the best condition by far. The flip-top functions as it should, and all of the mahogany veneer is intact with no warping or chipping present. After a close look at every inch of this table, it was found that there is no damage, relatively little wear to be found, and it sits level and solid on the floor. Top to bottom details. The top surfaces, both opened and closed, look very nice. There are some light, fine scratches, and these surfaces have a glossy finish. This is evident in the fact that there was no way to get a good picture without a great deal of glare. The original hinges look fine and function properly, and the top rotates and unfolds properly. The interior space under the top is also very good. There are two nail holes indicating that there was something attached that is no longer present, and the felt at the top shows wear, but does save the top surface from being scratched as intended. The handles are both present, secure and look good. The central pedestal is excellent overall with no damage or excessive wear on all four sides, and the lyre in the center is fine. The legs are also in the same very nice shape as the rest of this table. This is where the laminate comes loose and gets chipped due to the bends it covers. In this case, there is none of that, and all looks very good. The brass claw end cap feet are free of damage, and they look good overall. There is a "twist" at the bottom where two pieces meet that's been there from day one we were told. If desired, this can be rectified by realigning the bolts so that it is straight. We didn't perform this task as we received this piece in excellent condition and did not want to do more than clean it up. Please see the pictures for further details.
