A narrative patchwork that originally emerged from Lima's shantytowns as a powerful artistic medium for women, stitching stories of hardship, survival, and communal resilience during times of severe upheaval. Titled "Cosecha" or "Harvest", it depicts yarn in a three-dimensional format of the hills and landscapes, and depicts a lively, idealized day in a rural Andean village. Meticulously hand-stitched cloth figures with grazing livestock, native cacti, white-walled homes, and terracotta tile roofs were exported in the late 20th century. The arpilleras were created almost exclusively by collectives of women in communal workshops, talleres, working in church-sponsored workshop cooperatives—one entire textile is beautifully housed in its authentic location, framed with decorative hand-hammered, dimpled Peruvian tin folk art, as a complete, ready-to-hang collector's piece to bring a rich cultural history into eclectic, global, or Bohemian interiors.
