Produced circa 1920 by the renowned American maker Bradley & Hubbard, these architectural bookends are modeled after the legendary Temple of Saturn in the Roman Forum, transforming one of antiquity’s most iconic classical ruins into sophisticated decorative objects for the refined library or study.

Each bookend is masterfully cast in solid iron with remarkable architectural detail throughout, featuring a row of classical columns beneath a jagged ruin-like pediment that evokes the weathered remains of ancient Rome. Mounted to the stepped bases are original brass plaques engraved “Temple of Saturn,” adding a distinguished scholarly touch and reinforcing their Grand Tour inspiration. Adding to their desirability, both retain their original felt bottoms, and one still bears its original paper label description, a rare surviving detail seldom found intact.
