Made of a classic brown grained leatherette or textured cloth, it features a gold-embossed heraldic crest flanked by two rampant lions and a crown. This was a very common decorative motif for retail photo albums of that era.
A traditional tassel string is laced through punched holes, allowing pages to be added or removed. The album’s leaves are made of black construction paper. The photos are secured using traditional paper mounting corners, which preserves the prints without gluing them down directly.
The album follows a chronological, geographic travel route typical of mid-century North American tourism. Photos cover Virginia, focusing on Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Monroe's Ash Lawn (including his statue), and the Governor's Palace in Colonial Williamsburg.
Washington, D.C. photos include the Washington Monument, as well as sweeping aerial cityscapes looking down the National Mall, the U.S. Supreme Court Building, and the U.S. Capitol.
On to New York City, where the photos document the iconic Manhattan Skyline from the water, including views of downtown skyscrapers, bustling shipping docks, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Moving north, the photos include Quebec, Canada, capturing the historic French-Canadian charm of Quebec City through a mix of personal black-and-white photos and vibrant, printed linen postcards, as well as Montreal.
