The composition features three men and a woman seated around a wooden table, captured in the midst of the game. Playing cards, gaming pieces, and numerous small accessories animate the tabletop, while the gestures, facial expressions, and interaction between the figures give the scene a remarkable sense of narrative and realism. Entirely handcrafted and hand-painted, the group demonstrates the elaborate modeling traditionally associated with Capodimonte porcelain. Particular attention has been devoted to the characters' faces, hands, clothing, and individual expressions, as well as to the textures and details of the surrounding furniture and objects. The sculpture belongs to the tradition of Italian genre groups portraying scenes from everyday life, a field in which artists and modelers such as Bruno Merli and Scapinello became particularly well known. Unless a specific signature or factory mark confirms authorship, however, the work should be catalogued as Capodimonte / Italian School rather than definitively attributed to either artist. The porcelain composition is presented on an elegant hardwood base with a decorative metal plaque, giving the group additional presence and making it ready for display. with its substantial dimensions, intricate modeling, and expressive characterization, Partita a Carte is an attractive collector's piece and a fine example of the theatrical realism characteristic of 20th-century Italian decorative porcelain.
