An authentic piece of mid-20th-century industrial design dating to circa 1935–1940. Designed by American sculptor and industrial designer Fred Farr. The rack utilizes an innovative machine-age "spring steel" concept. Two undulating loops of curved metal act like flexible coils against a central base shaft to hold magazines or books securely in place via spring tension. Revere Copper and Brass, Inc. in Rome, New York launched a short-lived luxury giftware line starting in 1935 to compete with other leading Art Deco brands. Production of this decorative giftware completely shut down in 1941 when Revere shifted its factories to support wartime military production. Because it was only produced for roughly six years, this piece is highly collectible and sought after by Art Deco enthusiasts. You will frequently see this exact piece misattributed to modernism pioneer Norman Bel Geddes, but patent documents verify it is a Fred Farr design. Maker’s mark on bottom.
