Marcel Vasseur & Daum
A wonderful French art deco lamp made around 1925 in wrought iron of excellent quality. The forged base holds a beautiful shade in mottled glass produced by Daum. It is signed with the usual Daum Nancy France signature scratched in thin lines in the warm glass paste. These signatures are often practically invisible for the naked eye. With the aid of some transparent tape it shows up.
The lamp was made by Marcel Vasseur a blacksmith who had like E.Brandt and R.Subes a large workshop in Paris making pieces both on command as for his own outlet. Vasseur was represented at the 1925 art décorative exhibit in Paris. The company used several different brands of shades on its lamps. Muller ones in clear molded-pressed glass as well as Daum Muller or Schneider shades in double layered hand-blown glass with colour inclusions. A smaller version of this base is represented in one of the Vasseur product catalogs. The catalog is of course no part of this sale.
The lamp is 35,3 cm (13,9 inches) high. And the shade has a diameter of 13,5 cm. The lamp is in excellent condition. And comes rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord and a stylish brass and porcelain E14 socket. For the States or Japan I will rewire the lamp with a US candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.
