A highly imaginative allegorical composition by the Florentine painter Alberto Madiai, distinguished by its elongated vertical format and densely layered symbolic narrative. The work presents a dreamlike assembly of historical, mythical, and theatrical figures arranged across multiple registers, creating a visual pageant that unfolds like a medieval mystery play or Renaissance court spectacle. At the centre of the composition, a youthful mounted figure draped in a vivid red cloak assumes the role of protagonist, surrounded by enigmatic attendants, soldiers, courtiers, and ceremonial participants. The upper register is populated by armoured and mannequin-like figures set against a distant landscape punctuated by smoke and fire, while the lower section depicts a gathering of richly dressed characters engaged in ritualized exchange around a circular table. Throughout the composition, animals, banners, emblems, and architectural fragments contribute to an atmosphere suspended between history, fable, and dream.
