Large handmade ceramic vase or umbrella stand, produced in italy between the late 1940s and early 1950s by the prestigious ceramic factory ce as of albisola, italy.
the vase is hand-decorated on both sides by decorator lina poggi assalini who worked at the factory from its founding in 1945 until 1954.
very good vintage condition.
available from the same series are two important vases decorated with sculpted handles as shown in the last photographs.
lina poggi assalini (1907 – 2002) was an important italian ceramist, sculptor, gallery owner, and entrepreneur, a key figure in albisola's ceramic tradition. From 1929 to 1972, she was unique for her time, being the only female owner and manager of a company in the ligurian ceramics sector.
ce.as. (an acronym for ceramiche aschero) was a historic ceramics factory in albisola marina, active primarily in the mid-20th century and closely linked to lina poggi assalini.
founded by the aschero family, the factory experienced its artistic peak thanks to the contribution of lina poggi assalini, who served as its main artistic director and designer until 1954, the year in which lina poggi left ce.as. To set up her own business, founding the apa (albisola poggi assalini) factory and the dei leudi gallery.
the style and technical innovation: the ce.as. Granulato.
the factory became famous for the introduction of special glazes, such as the famous "granulato ce.as." glaze, a textured and innovative coating that gave surfaces a grainy, sandblasted, and modern texture.
