This tall hexagonal vase is executed using the traditional sommerso technique, with a core of smoked grey glass encased within clear crystal and finished with an outer layer of luminous cyan blue. The substantial walls and sharply polished facets refract light beautifully, producing constantly shifting tones and reflections from every angle. Its slender hexagonal form gives the vase a distinctly architectural presence, while the thick polished base adds weight and stability. The combination of bold proportions, crisp faceting and layered colour creates a striking contemporary sculptural object, equally suited to displaying a single stem or standing alone as decorative Murano art glass. The original Murano label remains affixed to the front, supporting its Italian origin. Examples of faceted sommerso vases of this height are encountered less frequently than smaller examples, making this an especially impressive decorative piece.
