A striking French Brutalist coffee table dating to circa 1965, crafted from solid oak with a richly glazed ceramic tile inset top. The substantial oak frame, with its thick, rounded edges and boldly proportioned square legs, exemplifies the robust craftsmanship and sculptural simplicity associated with the Brutalist movement.
The inset ceramic tile panel is composed of an asymmetrical arrangement of hand-glazed rectangular and square tiles in warm shades of chestnut, umber, and cream. Several tiles are impressed with delicate natural leaf motifs, creating a pleasing contrast between the table's rugged architectural form and the organic decoration of the ceramic surface. The earthy glaze and subtle tonal variations lend depth and character, while the broad oak border beautifully frames the tile composition.
Displaying a warm, well-developed patina, this handsome table is equally suited to rustic, modern, or mid-century interiors, serving as a functional coffee table and a sculptural focal point.
