A stunning, highly collectible set of five (5) fine French faience earthenware dinner plates in the rare "Nella" pattern by … Read more A stunning, highly collectible set of five (5) fine French faience earthenware dinner plates in the rare "Nella" pattern by the renowned manufacturer Jules Vieillard & Cie (Bordeaux, France), dating to circa 1870.Celebrating the late 19th-century Japonisme movement, each plate features a beautifully asymmetrical, hand-painted naturalist design showcasing exotic birds, delicate floral blossoms, and insects perched among winding branches. The base glaze is a timeless soft cream, accented beautifully by minimalist, modern-feeling borders that make the vibrant colors pop.The undersides feature the authentic interlocking script "JVB" (Jules Vieillard Bordeaux) monogram stamp alongside the cursive "Nella" pattern mark, as well as factory worker kiln incisions. A magnificent addition for collectors of French ironstone, bird motifs, or high-end antique tableware. Each plate features hand-painted bird and floral motifs with blue rim detail and aged crazed glaze. These plates were displayed for many years and show significant age-related wear.

• Heavy crazing throughout
• Surface staining and discoloration from age and display
