For your consideration, a vintage torch striker (also commonly known as a flint spark lighter or gas igniter).
It is a manual tool used primarily by welders and metalworkers to safely ignite oxy-acetylene or gas cutting torches without using an open match or disposable lighter.
The long, springy U-shaped metal band acts as a handle.
When you squeeze the two sides of the loop together, a piece of flint attached to the internal arm rubs hard against a rough, file-like steel surface housed inside the rectangular cap.
This quick abrasive friction produces a concentrated shower of sparks to catch the gas flow instantly
