A rare and impressive pair of antique Japanese Meiji period Hina Dolls depicting the Emperor (Odairi-sama) and Empress (Ohina-sama). Featuring finely modeled gofun faces, elaborate traditional silk costumes, and the Empress wearing an intricate gilt metal crown with delicate floral and beaded ornaments.
These large dolls measure approximately:
Empress: 14" long × 13" high
Emperor: 13" long × 14" high
The pair displays wonderful antique character and craftsmanship typical of Meiji-era Hina festival dolls. Their expressive hand-painted faces, layered robes, and original construction make them attractive examples for collectors of Japanese art and traditional Hina Ningyo.
Condition is consistent with significant age. There is expected wear, including fabric losses, fading, fraying, scattered paint loss, and wear to the head coverings and garments, as shown in the photographs. The dolls retain excellent display presence despite the age-related condition. Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the condition description.
A beautiful and authentic antique Japanese display set suitable for collectors of Meiji-period decorative arts, Hina Matsuri dolls, and Asian antiques.
