White marble sculpture,
French work, circa 1800,
early 19th century, in the antique neoclassical style
. Depicts Venus at her bath.
The features conform to the ancient Greek canons in the tradition of the neoclassical school.
The sculpture is executed with exaggerated curves and uninterrupted volutes, from the hair to the fingertips, illustrating a form of softness attributed to femininity.
The base is sculpted in relief with ripples of water.
Venus gracefully throws water over her shoulder, undulating her body in the movement.
Restorations to the fingers, reattached with metal pins.
Dimensions: 51 x 20 x 29 cm
