This antique stool (or tabouret) from France dating from the late Louis XVI to Directoire period, has a square-shaped upholstered seat above a stepped frieze and raised on four turned and fluted legs terminating into bulb-shaped feet. The seat retains a square profile with softened corners and is covered in a salmon-pink upholstery with suede texture, embellished with a border of brass nail head trim. The finished is an early black paint and parcel-gilt decoration that exhibits an attractive, naturally worn patina consistent with age and use. This late 18th century French Directoire stool would work beautifully as a vanity seat, a fireside accent, or as a sophisticated occasional stool beside a sofa or chair. See less
