It features the iconic Phillips highway shield outline stamped onto the side.
The bottom band lists the capacity as "5 US GALLONS / 18.925 LITERS". Similar Butler Manufacturing models feature an embossed "5 Gallon Standard Measure" on the upper lid or side body.
It retains its original wire bail handle with a central wooden grip, a threaded main filler neck, and a separate small vent cap.
Cans like this are highly sought after in the Petroleum / Automobilia collector community. While the original red, white, and black painted graphics have heavily weathered away to a uniform rustic orange-brown patina, it remains structurally solid.
