Presenting a beautifully preserved mid to late 19th-century Ottoman brass traveler's divit (qalamdan), a highly collectible and functional piece of Islamic calligraphy history. Worn tucked into a scribe's belt, this multi-piece cast assembly features a long, rectangular tubular pen compartment alongside an integrated, square-profile inkwell.The inkwell lid is masterfully designed with a prominent shell-shaped relief motif. Hand-tooled arabesque scrolling floral patterns accent the case surfaces. Most notably, the barrel features an crisp, embedded cursive Nasta'liq workshop seal reading "عمل سهراب" ("Work of Sohrab"), authenticating it to a recognized master metalsmith of the period.Features exceptional deep-crevice historical patina and completely intact hinge assemblies. A striking, sculptural addition to any academic library, executive desk, or curated curiosity cabinet. Item measures 8.5" long, 2" wide, 1.5" deep.

Good antique condition with surface wear, rich verdigris, and deep patina consistent with age and historical use. The inkwell hinge shows evidence of an old, stable artisan repair/reinforcement.
