A striking hand-thrown Aptware serving bowl by celebrated French ceramicist Christine Jouval. Signed by the artist, this substantial bowl features her signature marbled blue glaze, with richly layered terre mêlée decoration that makes every piece entirely unique. Aptware originated in the Provençal town of Apt in the 18th century and is prized for its labor-intensive marbled clay technique. Today, only a handful of artisans continue this tradition, making authentic signed examples increasingly sought after by collectors.
Sourced directly from Christine Jouval's most recent collection, this bowl beautifully blends centuries-old French craftsmanship with a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. Equally at home as a serving piece or displayed as a sculptural centerpiece, it is a wonderful example of one of Provence's most celebrated ceramic traditions.
