There are few furniture designs that capture the glamour and architectural confidence of the 1980s as beautifully as Spectrum Ltd.'s celebrated "Washington" cocktail table.
This sculptural example features a monumental 36 x 48 inch thick beveled glass top resting on four beautifully curved and faceted 2-inch-thick cast Lucite supports, anchored into a massive polished cast brass plinth. The remarkable balance between transparency and weight creates a striking illusion of floating glass while showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship for which Spectrum Ltd. became known.
The design closely corresponds to the documented Washington cocktail table produced by Spectrum Ltd. during the mid-1980s, a model frequently associated with designer Jeffrey Bigelow, whose sculptural Lucite and brass creations helped define luxury American interiors of the period.
Adding further interest, the underside of the brass base bears the handwritten notation:
9 / 4 / 87 SAK
believed to be an original production or assembly notation consistent with late-1980s manufacture.
The table is exceptionally substantial in person. The polished cast brass base is remarkably heavy, while the thick faceted Lucite supports display outstanding clarity and precision craftsmanship.
Whether placed in a sophisticated contemporary residence, a Hollywood Regency interior, or a curated Postmodern collection, this table functions equally as fine furniture and sculptural art.
An increasingly difficult model to find, particularly with its original thick beveled glass top.

The brass retains a beautiful warm patina with light age-appropriate wear. The Lucite remains exceptionally clear with only minor evidence of careful use. The original thick beveled glass presents beautifully. One corner has a small chip that is visible only upon close inspection and does not detract from the overall presentation or structural integrity of the table. Overall, the piece displays exceptionally well and remains an outstanding example of late twentieth-century American luxury furniture. less
