An exquisite and highly collectible 19th-century French Old Paris (Vieux Paris) porcelain compote/tazza dessert stand. This unmarked piece beautifully showcases the masterful craftsmanship, striking color palettes, and classical European motifs characteristic of prominent independent Parisian workshops active during the Empire and Restoration periods. The wide, shallow porcelain plate features a gently scalloped rim finished with an elegant hand-gilded trim. A striking, vibrant border of Pompadour pink encircles the crisp white center medallion, which highlights a beautifully detailed, hand-painted ornithological study of a long-tailed bird perched amidst lush foliage and delicate botanical branches.
The stand’s true centerpiece is its spectacular, highly sculptural tri-footed base. The column features subtle hand-painted floral sprigs, flanked by three beautifully molded, gilded mythical dolphins (stylized sea monsters or koi fish) with intricately detailed scales. The dolphins rest upon a raised, stepped triangular plinth adorned with hand-painted gold cross-hatch starburst medallions and gilded borders.
