An exceptional, finely detailed 18th-century hand-colored engraving titled "Column of Trajan," originally published in London in 1798 by L. Merigot and R. Edwards.
This striking architectural print depicts the historic Roman triumphal monument alongside the church of Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano. The engraving features rich, beautifully preserved hand-applied coloring that accentuates the dramatic lighting and intricate carvings of the ancient column.
This piece is housed in a spectacular, heavy gold-gilt wood frame with a custom layered cream French mat. The framing was executed by J. Pocker & Son, one of New York City’s most prestigious historic custom framers (established 1926). Known for museum-quality conservation, the archival backing and professional matting have kept this antique print in excellent condition, shielding it from typical environmental wear.
The Reverse features where original sticker was from J. Pocker & Son. From the Private Estate of David J. Bikoff, M.D., P.A., of New Jersey. Adding excellent documentation and provenance to the piece.
Excellent used antique condition. ;The hand-coloring remains vibrant and true. No major foxing, staining, or tears visible under the mat. Frame is superb, gallery-ready condition. Structural joints are tight and solid. Minimal, negligible surface wear to the outer frame consistent with careful estate display. Ready to hang.
