Pair of French Neoclassical Bronze Gueridons with Polished Banded Onyx Tops and Under-tiers. This elegant pair of French occasional tables reflects the restrained sophistication of the Louis XVI Revival and early Neoclassical traditions, most likely dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1940s-1960s). While inspired by eighteenth-century French design, their clean architectural lines and richly figured stone surfaces lend them an equally successful place within Hollywood Regency and modern classical interiors.

Each table is constructed with a finely cast bronze frame of circular form, rising on four elegantly tapered supports joined by graceful arched stretchers. The legs terminate in crisply cast lion's paw feet, a classical motif symbolizing strength and permanence, while the restrained profile emphasizes proportion rather than excessive ornamentation.

The true visual centerpiece is the remarkable stone. Although often casually referred to as agate, these tops appear to be book-matched polished banded green onyx (also known commercially as Algerian or Mexican onyx) rather than true silica agate. The dramatic flowing veining, translucent qualities, and layered mineral deposits are characteristic of decorative calcite onyx, a stone highly favored by French and Italian makers during the Art Deco and mid-century periods. Colors range from pale celadon and sage green through honey, caramel, amber, cream, ivory, cinnamon, and rich rust, with occasional blush pink inclusions. Every slab presents a naturally occurring abstract landscape that cannot be duplicated.

The lower undertier echoes the main top with a smaller circular onyx platform, creating both visual balance and practical display space for books, decorative objects, or sculpture. The bronze galleries surrounding both tiers provide a refined finished edge while protecting the stone.
