A charming Italian polychromed tole grapevine table lamp, circa 1960s, masterfully handcrafted in the form of a manicured topiary. The sculptural shade is composed of dozens of individually formed and hand-painted tole grape leaves that cascade naturally over an open framework, punctuated by clusters of deep purple grapes. The result is an elegant botanical composition that blurs the line between functional lighting and decorative sculpture.

Executed in richly layered shades of verdigris green with subtle bronze and gilt highlights, each leaf is individually shaped, chased, and painted to capture the movement and texture of natural grape foliage. Delicate curling tendrils and branching stems create remarkable depth, while the openwork construction allows light to filter softly through the canopy, casting a warm, atmospheric glow.

The gracefully bundled stem rises from an organically formed tripod base fashioned from continuous iron rod, reinforcing the illusion of a living vine while reflecting the whimsical elegance characteristic of Italian decorative arts of the period. The interior floral bobeche further demonstrates the attention to detail found in its handcrafted construction.

Inspired by the vineyards and classical gardens of Italy, grapevine motifs have long symbolized abundance, hospitality, fertility, and celebration, making this lamp equally appropriate as a decorative statement or conversation piece.

Professionally rewired for modern use, the lamp remains an exceptional example of mid-century Italian tole craftsmanship. It complements Hollywood Regency, Maison Jansen, Mid-Century Modern, and traditional European interiors alike.
