Daum Lorrain
A beautiful French 1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze holding a large bowl by Lorrain verrerie de belle étoile.
The pendant on offer holds a large Lorrain signed shade in clear frosted molded-pressed glass. Although the signature on this model Lorrain shade is always extremely vague. The bowl is represented in the old Lorrain catalog on page #10 as model #152 and is referred to as "lanterne Versailles". A wonderful heavy shade in thick glass. The chandelier is in good condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the authentic fixture. And the lamp is rewired with an American standard socket.
The pendant has a drop of 29,25 inches and the shade has a diameter of 9,05 inches and a height of 12,25". The bowl has no chips or cracks. But some molding irregularities have been grinded off in the factory. If you want I can easily shorten the fixture.
At the moment I have four of these lanterns available. But all four shades are a little different in tone. And some are more polished than others giving them glossier transparent highlights... So I do not recommend them to be used as pairs hanging close to one another. Like for instance over a kitchen island.

On Lorrain: In 1926 the famous Daum glass manufacturers opened a new plant in the village of Croismare near Luneville. A year later it started a production of pressed glassware. The new company 'Les Verreries d'Art Lorrain" merged with the one Daum already owned in this village "Les verreries de belle étoile". For these plants the Daum company employed the well-known designer Pierre d'Avesn , who till that time worked for René Lalique, as its artistic director. d'Avesn stayed in office until the Lorrain branch closed down in 1934. Some Lorrain models were signed P.d'Avesn. After the bankruptcy of Lorrain d'Avesn became the director of the Hanots/Verlys glass manufactory of the Holophane company.
