With its expressive closed eyes, prominent modeled nose, and charming toothy smile, it possesses a quiet personality that makes it equally compelling as art and décor.

The vessel is formed from warm reddish-brown earthenware with a softly burnished surface and broad flared neck. Natural firing variations, subtle smoke-darkening, and hand-worked textures give the piece an organic character that cannot be replicated by factory production.

Although I acquired the vessel as a Pre-Columbian piece, I cannot authenticate that attribution and therefore offer it more conservatively as a vintage handcrafted Latin American effigy vessel in the Pre-Columbian tradition, likely dating to the mid-20th century.

Its modest scale makes it an ideal accent for bookshelves, cabinets, coffee tables, or curated collections of primitive art, studio pottery, and organic modern interiors.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with expected wear consistent with age and handmade construction. There is one small puncture/opening on one side of the vessel, shown in the last photograph. It appears to have occurred during manufacture or early in the life of the piece and does not detract from its display. See less
