French, 19th century pair of very tall silver-plated altar candlesticks from a church or cathedral, electrified as table lamps to illuminate the home and spirit. The slender columns feature a reeded texture as they rise to the bobeches, projecting further into the socket that fits standard base bulbs. The light is diffused by new linen shades with on/off switches below the bulbs. Triangular pedestal bases are decorated on each side with répoussé decoration of ecclesiastical symbolism such as the Eye of Providence, Ten Commandments, and Sacred Heart. Stylized paw feet elevate the lamps from the table surface. Dark oxidation of the silver brings greater definition and presence to the textures of these magnificent lamps. We believe these to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
