A stunning, original Japanese Naga-hibachi (Hibachi Tansu) from the Taisho to early Showa period, offering a perfect blend of historical authenticity and a refined Wabi-Sabi aesthetic.
Constructed from solid Keyaki (Zelkova) wood, this piece showcases beautiful, dramatic, swirling wood grain and traditional Japanese joinery. The cabinet retains its original internal copper lining and structural integrity.
Exceptional Provenance:
The interior drawers retain their original Japanese newspaper linings. The traditional right-to-left formatting and nengō calendar dating confirm the papers were printed in the 13th year of the Showa era (Saturday, November 19, 1938). This provides an undisputed, documented historical timeline for the piece’s active use in a Japanese home during the early Showa period, while the construction and materials suggest origins dating back to the Taisho era.
The Brazier Hardware:
This tansu comes fully staged with a secondary vintage metal brazier assembly. The interior hardware includes a metal brazier stand (heat shield), two vintage brass pouring kettles, and a heavy mid-century brass brazier bowl (stamped Made in South Korea), creating a complete, highly decorative layout.
