Vintage Victorian Japanese Hand Carved (Japonisme) Aesthetic Movement Lamp Tall
* Cast metal construction, likely cast iron or spelter with a black japanned finish.
* Multiple pierced (openwork) galleries and decorative bands.
* A lotus or petal-shaped bobeche (the flower-shaped drip plate beneath the candle sleeve).
* Repeating seigaiha (Japanese wave) pattern on the upper stem.
* Pierced floral and foliate motifs.
* A heavily embossed base with swirling scrolls and wave-like decoration.
A Japanese Movement lamp, probably produced in the late Victorian to early 20th century, roughly 1895–1925. During this period many American manufacturers produced lamps incorporating Japanese decorative elements following the popularity of imported Japanese art after the 1876 Centennial Exposition.
The pierced openwork and decorative casting make it more desirable than many plain antique lamp bases.
A period-appropriate silk, parchment, or mica shade would complement it well.
