A beautifully preserved pair of mid-century German hand-colored etchings depicting two of the most iconic architectural landmarks of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval towns. Rich in historical character and artistic craftsmanship, the works capture the romantic atmosphere that has made Rothenburg a lasting source of inspiration for artists and travelers alike.
The original etched compositions were created by noted German artist Ernst Geissendörfer (1908–1993) and were later meticulously hand-colored by German artist Albert Wiese, whose pencil signature appears beneath each print. The delicate watercolor application enhances the architectural details while bringing warmth and life to the medieval streetscapes, making every impression subtly unique.
One composition portrays the celebrated St. George’s Fountain (Georgsbrunnen) in Rothenburg’s historic Market Square, while its companion depicts the Markusturm (Marcus Tower) and Röder Arch, among the city’s most recognizable fortified gateways. Together, they form a cohesive visual narrative of one of Germany’s most treasured historic towns.
Each work is professionally presented in a vintage giltwood frame with a canvas-lined mat surround under glass, creating a refined presentation suitable for traditional, European, English Country, or French-inspired interiors. Displayed together, the pair offers timeless decorative appeal while celebrating Germany’s rich artistic and architectural heritage.
