A beautifully presented Victorian engraving titled "The Boasting Hound," after the celebrated British painter Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A. (1802–1873).
Originally published in London on May 1, 1851 by F. Gwynne of Cockspur Street, Charing Cross, this engraving was executed by Alfred Lucas, one of the accomplished engravers known for translating Landseer's renowned animal paintings into finely detailed prints.
The composition captures three expressive sporting dogs resting in a sweeping English landscape, showcasing Landseer's extraordinary ability to portray both the physical beauty and personality of his canine subjects. His works remain among the most admired examples of Victorian sporting art and continue to be sought after by collectors, interior designers, and lovers of traditional English interiors.
The engraving retains its engraved title, artist attribution, engraver attribution, and London publication line within the plate margins.
Professionally matted beneath glass and presented in a handsome custom burlwood gallery frame with elegant cream and green matting. Ready to hang.
A sophisticated addition to an English library, country estate, sporting lodge, gentleman's study, or equestrian-inspired interior.
Condition: Very good vintage condition.
Professionally framed under glass. Minor age-related wear to the frame consistent with age and display. The print presents beautifully with visible plate margins and engraved inscriptions.
