A beautifully presented nineteenth-century hand-colored engraving titled "Highland Dogs", after the celebrated British animal painter Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A. (1802–1873).
Originally published in London on January 1, 1880 by G.P. McQueen, the engraving was executed by Alfred Lucas, one of the accomplished engravers who translated Landseer's beloved sporting and animal paintings into fine prints.
The composition depicts an elegant gathering of Highland hunting dogs, including graceful deerhounds and companion breeds set against a dramatic Scottish landscape. Landseer's remarkable ability to capture the intelligence and personality of animals made him one of the Victorian era's most admired painters, and his sporting subjects remain enduring favorites among collectors and interior designers alike.
This impression retains its engraved title, publication line, artist attribution, and engraver attribution within the plate margins.
The engraving has been professionally matted and presented under glass in an elegant custom burlwood frame with subtle green and cream matting, creating a sophisticated presentation that complements both traditional and transitional interiors.
An exceptional statement piece for an English library, country estate, sporting lodge, mountain retreat, or equestrian home.
