Vintage Thumbprint Planter attributed to David Cressey for Earthgender 1970s.
This vessel is a rare vintage beauty, handmade and attributed to the iconic Earthgender team of Maxwell and Cressey. It features that classic earthenware look and feel, Mid-Century profile , interesting deep yellow ochre speckled glaze, and deep texture made by pressing in to create actual thumbprints.
Earthgender was founded in the early 1970s in El Segundo, California, by renowned local potters and former UCLA classmates Robert Maxwell and David Cressey. Maxwell and Cressey shared a pottery studio in Venice, CA and when Cressey ended his tenure with Architectural Pottery, he and Maxwell teamed up to form Earthgender for a brief but memorable run. The large-scale, stoneware planters the team produced by hand were iconic and are highly sought after today, including the "Teardrop Sunburst" and "Thumbprint" series.
Planter measures 15" Diameter by 11" in height.
In good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Can be used indoor or outdoors.
