The distinctive window pane design design on the doors, beautifully carved bracket feet and dental moulding around the crown, gives this piece such character. The original wood screw turned knobs that are worn with well over a century of use, original brass key escutcheons, and the old interior hooks that are mounted inside the crown at the back, speak to the age and authenticity of this linen press. In addition to its beauty, the interior cabinet with a shelf and three drawers offers a great deal of storage space. The interior shelf space is 16.5"D.
As the astragal is fixed between the doors, each door opening measures 41"H x 21.75"W with the top interior space being 18.5"H with an additional 5" up into the crown. The bottom interior space measures 23.5"H.
The linen press comes apart into two sections for easier movement. The top measures 48.5"H; the bottom measures 29.75"H. The doors and drawers are removable as well to lighten the load when moving.
This is a strong and sturdy cabinet, ready for many years of use. The drawers and doors work well, with the left door latching and the right door locking with a tasseled key. As this is an antique cabinet there are numerous imperfections in the wood including but not limited to scratches, discolorations, and separation in the wood joints (most notably on the cabinet sides, see photos). None of the imperfections in the wood affect the structure of the cabinet. The dark spots you see on the bracket feet and elsewhere on the cabinet are from the use of old iron nails that have bled coloring into the light pine. See less
