Presenting an original 1930 limited-edition etching by renowned French Animalier master Paul Jouve (1878–1973) titled Combat Between a Lion and a Python (Combat de lion et python).
This dramatic Art Deco composition captures one of Jouve’s most iconic wildlife subjects and is hand-signed in graphite by the artist and hand-numbered 2/100, making it an exceptionally low edition number within this scarce limited edition.
The artwork remains housed in its attractive vintage frame with intact backing paper and displays beautifully with strong contrast, crisp line work, and an excellent overall presentation. It is ready to display immediately or may be professionally re-matted to suit the next owner’s preference.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Paul Jouve is widely regarded as one of the foremost artists of the French Animalier movement and a leading figure of the Art Deco period. His original signed works are represented in major museum collections and continue to be highly sought after by collectors of French decorative arts and important twentieth-century prints.
This original limited-edition example, with its exceptionally low edition number, represents an increasingly difficult opportunity to acquire one of Jouve’s classic wildlife compositions.
The artwork will be professionally packed in an oversized heavy-duty art box with generous protective cushioning, full insurance, and signature confirmation to ensure safe delivery.

Condition characteristics include: • Light overall age toning • Scattered foxing consistent with age • A few light handling creases visible under close inspection, including a minor crease near the snake • Minor age-related discoloration visible near portions of the mat opening • Vintage frame showing light cosmetic wear consistent with age These characteristics are typical of original works on paper from this period and do not detract from the overall visual impact of the image. No tears or major structural damage were observed during inspection. Please review every photograph carefully, including the close-up condition photographs, as they form an important part of this description. less
